Many terms are used to describe the following styles: New Orleans Jazz, Traditional Jazz, Dixieland Jazz, Creole Jazz, Early jazz and others. It is all great music and very indigenous to New Orleans. Enjoy!

  1. Traditional, Dixieland or Early Jazz - Period from 1916 into the 1930's.
  2. Big Band / Swing - Period from the late 1920's to 1950's.
  3. Contemporary, Modern, Bebop - Period from the late 1940's into the late 1960's.
  4. Vocal jazz - covers all stylistic periods. The most common are New Orleans (traditional/Dixieland jazz) and classic jazz standards to modern.

Nicholas Payton has gained international recognition as one of the best musicians worldwide for New Orleans jazz. On this CD a few of the finest New Orleans musicians team up with a few of Denmark's great musicians to provide a spectacular fusion of international talent. This CD was recorded in New Orleans and is quite a fine recording.

New Orleans Spice - Parade of Classics (DHMP 0801)
Six-piece New Orleans Jazz Band. Trumpet, Clarinet, Banjo, Tuba, Bass Drum & Snare Drum.

The music on the New Orleans Spice CD entitled "Parade of Classics" is fun, exciting, musical and captivating. It is classic New Orleans traditional jazz at its best. This is "feel-good" music in its finest form. The CD has 16 selections of recognized songs performed by a few of the best musicians in New Orleans today. The cover has an original watercolor done by a local artist, Misha Ambrosia, and the insert card has a beautiful black and white photo of Pirates Alley beside the St. Louis Cathedral taken by David Hansen, the group's leader. The music and the package are first class.

Original Dixieland Jazz Band - 80 Years of Jazz
Six piece New Orleans jazz band. Trumpet, Clarinet, Trombone, Piano, Bass & Drums.

In 1917, under the leadership of Nick LaRocca, the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (ODJB) made the first jazz recording. This first and many to follow were instant sensational "Hits" that were inspirational and influential beyond imagination. The ODJB is back in full swing under the direction of the original leader’s son, Jimmy LaRocca, on trumpet and vocals, with a fine ensemble of New Orleans musicians. This CD has many of the best selections from the 1st ODJB recorded by the present group.

Original Dixieland Jazz Band - Anniversary of a Jazz Legend
Six-piece New Orleans jazz band. Trumpet, Clarinet, Trombone, Piano, Bass & Drums.

Dominic James LaRocca was born in 1889 and in 1999 when this recording was made it was the 110 year anniversary of his birth. This CD has six selections that were composed by Nick LaRocca but never recorded! There is also one joint (father & son) composition, six original compositions by Jimmy LaRocca and an opening narration by Jimmy's mother (Nicks widow) Mrs. Ruth P. LaRocca.
