The New Orleans Jazz History Show
David Hansen's New Orleans Garden District Orchestra www.nogdo.com will take you on a journey like none other! In 2007 David Hansen was given the title "Music Scholar" for the Smithsonian traveling exhibit "New Harmonies: Celebrating America's Roots Music" where David organized an interactive jazz lecture and performance sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. David has performed with the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (www.odjb.com) since 1996, a group that has a performance history going back to 1916 and the first recorded jass records in 1917. The ODJB has toured all over the world keeping this style and sound of music from New Orleans alive and well. Having had the honor to attend and graduate from the acclaimed Music School at the University of North Texas (formerly NTSU) and receive a jazz diploma from Malaspina College in Canada (now Vancouver Island University), David has shown his passion for performing jazz from a very young age. His determination to learn and understand the history of jazz has led David to offer this outstanding presentation. (View our pdf document of general information on the six piece band presentation.) View David Hansen's Nine Piece "New Orleans Garden District Jazz Orchestra" in action!
You can also book the fourteen or sixteen member New Orleans Garden District Orchestra for a general jazz performance. We offer and perform a general music presentation covering Ragtime from the 1890's, dance music and marches from 1911 and jazz from 1917 to present with a primary focus on the incredible stock arrangements from the 1920's through 1950's. David has a music library of 4 to 5 thousand stock arrangements! This incredible library is a combination of music from four or more past New Orleans band leaders dating back to the 1920's. David was fortunate enough to acquired this library from friends who retired from the music business after Hurricane Katrina. This library is unique because it has many arrangements specific to the New Orleans music culture. These performances cover the best artists and arrangers in jazz and include; Cab Calloway, Fletcher Henderson, Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman, Bennie Moten, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller, Neilson Riddle, Frank Sinatra, Pete Fountain, Dave Bartholomew and hundreds more! |
