"St. Mary's Market was Irish for all its eighty-six years. It began just
when the Irish immigration to New Orleans was heaviest, and it was placed just
where most of the Irish settled.
In 1836 two new streets were cut through a square of ground from
Tchoupitoulas to New Levee (South Peters), between Howard and St. Joseph, and
the market was built between them. The two new streets were named North Market
and South Market. There on the downtown edge of the Irish Channel, St. Mary's
Market built up one of the important shopping sections of its day."

As you can see the Irish influence in New Orleans has been
around for a long, long time. There are even a few Irish venues (pubs) that have
excellent "Live" music. Below are a few local "Irish"
artists who live in New Orleans. Their music is great.
