Jazz is not always easy to fit into stylistic categories. On this site you will find:

  1. Traditional, Dixieland or Early Jazz - Period from 1916 into the 1930's.
  2. Big Band / Swing - Period from the late 1920's to 1950's.
  3. Contemporary, Modern/Vocal, Bebop - Period from the late 1940's into the late 1960's through today.
  4. Vocal jazz - covers all stylistic periods. The most common are New Orleans (traditional/Dixieland jazz) and classic jazz standards to modern.

Contemporary, Modern/Vocal, Bebop includes many current performing Artists from New Orleans who perform in the style or have been influenced by the styles from this time period.

Internationally known Artists of these styles include:
Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Mel Torme, Oscar Petersen, Dave Brubeck, John Coletrane, Manhattan Transfer  and hundreds of others.
