This style has a very long tradition dating back prior to the turn of the last century!A Parade through the French Quarter or a classic New Orleans Jazz Funeral come to mind when thinking of the Brass Bands. Papa "Jack" Laine's Reliance Brass Band in the 1890's and the Tuxedo Brass Band from the 1910's are two from the early New Orleans scene. Today there are many Brass Bands mainly performing the "street style" or more of a jam session feel - these are exciting and energetic bands. A few perform in the very old traditional style of Papa Jack Laine, others perform the classic New Orleans Jazz standards in a parading or Brass Band setting and some perform new original material along with the older songs.
